CHIEF's MESSAGE

Dear Residents of the Spring Valley Community,

It is an honor to serve as Fire Chief of the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department. I am proud to lead a dedicated team of volunteers committed to protecting the lives, property, and environment of our community in the Milpitas and San Jose foothills. We are completely volunteer and operate on donations and grants.

Our department is an all-hazards agency, meaning we respond to a wide range of emergencies and public safety needs throughout our community. In addition to responding to wildland fires, structure fires, and vehicle fires, our firefighters provide emergency medical response, rescue operations, traffic collision assistance, and support during severe weather and natural disasters. We also assist with search and rescue incidents in the surrounding foothills and open spaces, hazardous conditions involving downed power lines or gas leaks, and mutual aid responses throughout the region when neighboring communities require additional support.

Beyond emergency response, the department is committed to prevention, preparedness, and public education. We work closely with residents to promote wildfire safety, defensible space practices, evacuation planning, and emergency readiness. Our members participate in community outreach events, fire prevention inspections (when requested), and training exercises designed to ensure we are prepared to respond quickly and effectively when emergencies occur. Every member of our team shares a common mission: to provide dependable, professional, and compassionate service when you need it most.

As our community continues to grow and evolve, so do the challenges we face. We remain focused on strengthening our emergency response capabilities, enhancing training and equipment, and working closely with our regional partners to ensure the highest level of service. Investments in firefighter training, communications systems, emergency apparatus, and wildfire preparedness are critical to maintaining the safety and resilience of our community. At the same time, we are committed to responsibly managing our resources while adapting to increasing operational demands.

Community support is essential to our success. Whether through fire prevention efforts, emergency preparedness, volunteer involvement, or donations, your partnership plays a vital role in keeping Spring Valley safe and resilient. The continued support of our residents allows us to maintain equipment, improve training opportunities, and sustain the volunteer spirit that has long been the foundation of our department.

On behalf of the entire department, thank you for your continued trust and support. It is our privilege to serve you.

Sincerely,

David San Jose Fire Chief Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department
